The Early Years of Acharyaji Mahendranauth Doobay and His Journey from Guyana to the USA

Panditji, and respectfully, Acharyaji Mahendranauth Doobayji, was born on August 15, 1956. He is the son of the late Pandit Puniram and Dropodie Doobay of Triumph Village, Guyana. At a tender age with he began training as a Pandit under the guidance of his first Guru; his father. Acharyaji began his seva as a Pandit in Charge at the La Bonne Intention (LBI) Mandir at 25 years old. While serving at the LBI Mandir he studied Hindu Philosophy under the late Pandit Chandra Sama Persaud until he migrated to the USA in 1988.

Acharya's Spiritual Legacy Rooted in Devotion

In April 1994, Acharyaji, with his DharamPatni Dhanmati Doobay; alongside Bhai Bhoj Dindyal, his wife Behen Kumarie Dindyal and the support of several Devotees established the Bhavanee Maa Mandir located in Brooklyn, NY

Over the years, Panditji/AcharyaJi has officiated several kinds of religious functions in different countries. He has attended and participated in 3 Maha Khumbha Melas in Allahabad, India where he was given the Title ‘Bharat Gaurav’ by the World Religious Parliament in 2001. Acharyaji was invited as a sevak from the USA to have been one of the many Priests officiating at Shri Satya Baba’s 83rd birthday in Puttaparti, Bangalore India.

Acharya Doobay’s Dedication to Teaching and Inspiring Others

In 2016 he was bestowed the title VedaAcharya by the USA Arya Samaj, In 2020 he was awarded the title Shri Achryaji by the USPP, In July 2021 he was presented with the title of Dharma Bhushan and in 2023 he was one of the five Acharayas initiated in the USPP & the Federation of Hindu Mandirs newly formed Acharya Panchayat.

Acharya Doobay has served as Vyas at several sessions at Ramayan in the Park. In 2009, he was the First Vyas reading from Baal Khand and the 100th in 2022.

AcharyaJi gives complete reverence and respect to his Diksha and Siksha Guru. The late Pandit Ramkissoon Maharaj and Jagatguru Ramanand Rajeevlochan, in addition to his friend and teacher Acharya Hanumanta Rao for their guidance and teachings in his spiritual journey. 

Acharyaji strives to preserve, and spread the teachings of Sanatan Dharma for as long as he can, and encourages everyone that he interacts with to live a life of dharma and bhakti. Of all the Puranas, the Sri Ramcharitmanas remains to be his favorite and most dearest scripture. So much so that every time he has an opportunity to, he shares glorious tales of Sri Ram and Hanumanji to his three grandchildren, Aroon, Manav and Maya.
